Pleasant Valley Elementary

5th Grade Outdoor Camp

Each spring, Pleasant Valley’s fifth graders embark on an unforgettable adventure to the woodlands of Walker Creek. This four-day overnight experience is filled with exploration, discovery, and personal growth. Students spend their days hiking trails, investigating ponds and streams, learning about forest ecology, and even braving the famous banana slug challenge. Along the way, they build resilience, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Evenings are just as memorable, filled with night hikes, lively campfire songs and skits, and the always-fun Barnyard Boogie.

Students stay in cozy cabins of 5–6, accompanied by a parent chaperone, and enjoy meals together in the full-service indoor cafeteria. The program offers a robust mix of Environmental Science and Team Building Initiative classes, all aligned with California State Standards for Outdoor Education. Every group is led by a college-educated naturalist with extensive experience in outdoor and environmental education.

This incredible experience wouldn’t be possible without the energy, flexibility, and dedication of our amazing parent chaperones. Thank you for making it all happen! If you're interested in volunteering as a chaperone or supporting this program through fundraising efforts, we welcome your involvement. Your time, generosity, and enthusiasm help make this life-changing trip a reality for every PV fifth grader.
