Pleasant Valley School’s Physical Education program is designed inspire a passion for moving with the knowledge and skill necessary to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Particular emphasis is placed on developing a basic understanding of movement skills and knowledge, health and wellness concepts and how to apply these principles to everyday life.
Our curriculum emphasizes five overarching content standards as outline in the California Physical Education Content Standards:
Standard 1: Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Standard 2: Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and perfor- mance of physical activities.
Standard 3: Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.
Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.
Standard 5: Students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.
- Education Code Section 51210 requires 200 minutes of physical education every ten school days for students in grades one through six.
