May is National Mental Health Awareness Month Month. Mental Health Awareness Month is a period dedicated to helping raise awareness about mental health issues, promoting good mental health practices, and encouraging people to support others around them.  At Pleasant Valley Elementary we are fortunate to have several programs in place to provide students with mental healthcare and education to create a culture of care. These programs include monthly socio-emotional workshops through Soul Shoppe, partnership with Novato Youth and Family Services to provide individual Life Skills counseling as needed, Yard Supervisor Training through PlayWorks, Social Justice coordination and training through NUSD,  as well as community building circles in each classroom to check in with students and keep communication open and easy.

In addition, all staff receive are required each year to complete the Keenan Safe Schools online training course which helps us identify students who may be in need of assistance.

Want some ideas on how you can raise awareness during the month of May and all year long? Check out this activity guide.
